What does it mean?
Formwork creates the temporary mould and support arrangement for concrete until it can support the relevant loads. Quantity measurement often concerns the area in contact with concrete, but pricing also depends on geometry, finish, repetition, access and the support system. The calculators here estimate simple contact areas and do not design temporary works or determine safe support spacing.
In practice
For a 6 m beam 0.3 m wide and 0.5 m deep, the soffit and two long sides total 6 × (0.3 + 2 × 0.5) = 7.8 m². End shutters are separate.
Keep in mind
When preparing an estimate, record the specification reference, units and source of each assumption. Separate the net measured quantity from purchase allowances so changes remain easy to trace. Confirm product dimensions, yields and installation requirements with the supplier. Quantities do not establish structural adequacy or material suitability: use the project’s approved design and details, and seek the responsible designer’s clarification where the specification is incomplete.
